Freelance web designers are like wine. Some are around only because they're cheap and readily available but end up leaving a bad aftertaste and a big headache afterwards. And then there is us... We work alongside of our clients to ensure they are happy with the end result. We also make sure that anything that requires registration, is done under the owners name ensuring they are the true owner.

What's the worst thing a web designer could do to you? Steal your site...
We have assisted several of our clients who had their sites stolen from them because they were new to the internet and not educated on owning a web site. Although we are successful most of the time, there were a few clients who were forced to purchase a new domain name for their business and start from scratch.

How this can happen...
When your web designer originally registered your new domain name they entered their personal information rather than yours as the owner of the site. Although you're the one getting billed, their name is listed as the owner. Now let's say relations go sour with the designer.. He not only now owns the site, but he has complete control of the site. He can deactivate the content leaving a blank site, he can change the content to whatever he wants or he take over the business and run it as his own.

Another example would involve monthly "maintenance or publishing" fees. You paid money upfront for a complete functioning web site. Now that it has been published online, you're still paying a monthly fee to your web designer. You decide you no longer want to pay the monthly fee because you heard you can host your site for only $6.99 a month. You contact the web designer to change hosting companies, and now he informs you that the content belongs to him. Somewhere in that contract he made you sign, it clearly states he owns the work leaving you with nothing in the end.

So forget monthly fees, contracts or any other non-sense web designers ask for and join our clientele base.
